English Country dances in the spirit of the Jane Austen era for one and all.

A lavish affair with great atmosphere. Our new location is a gorgeous tudor style ballroom at one of Rochester’s most elegant Country Clubs.
Dances taught and prompted by Philadelphia’s Joanna Reiner, an English dance leader much in demand for her efficient teaching and clear instructions.
Dances will be reviewed in a morning practice session 10 am—noon, followed by a delicious buffet luncheon catered by the club. The Ball will start at 2 pm and end by 5:30, with a break mid-way for tea, refreshments and amusing diversions.
Subscription fee of $45 includes the practice, lunch, and delicious refreshments at the mid-dance break. $38 without lunch; reduced rates for observers and students.
Some exposure to English Country dancing is helpful. We are providing Ball preparation classes every Sunday afternoon (except Easter) in February, March, & April. Get a head start on learning the dances on the Ball program!
Regency period clothing is encouraged, but other dressy clothing is fine too. Consider attending our period clothing workshop on March 1, or renting costumes (e.g. from Regency Rentals). Or see Lisa Brown's hints on dressing for a Regency Ball for men and women.
Attendance limited to 90 dancers; pre-registration is strongly suggested.
Register by printing a copy of our flyer and filling out and mailing in the registration form on the back. Registrations must reach us by April 28.
A few suggestions on lodging can be found here, or you can e-mail a request for accomodations in the homes of local dancers to housing@rochestercontra.com.
Make a weekend of it! The night before the Ball (May 2 at 8 pm) there will be an English dance for experienced dancers, with a cavalcade of callers and music by Arugula.
