Playford Ball

Saturday, April 3, 1999
Music by
Spare Parts
(David Kaynor, Liz Stell, Bill Matthiesen)

At Covenant United Methodist Church, 1124 Culver Road, Rochester, NY.

Program at-a-glance

While we expect dancers to be familiar with English Country dance figures and style, dances at the Ball will be walked through and prompted.

The Dances

Will include a mix of Playford era and recently composed dances. Dances will be chosen from:

Bare Necessities Fandango Leah's Waltz
The Bishop Handel With Care Lilliburlero
Childgrove The Homecoming Miss DeJersey's Memorial
Christchurch Bells The Indian Queen Peace Be With You
Corelli's Maggot Jenny Pluck Pears Room for Ramblers
Elizabeth Knives and Forks Sarah

Dance Leaders

Pamela Goddard and Richard Sauvain (long time teachers of English dancing in Ithaca and Rochester, respectively) will share calling duties for the Ball itself. Pamela (whose style demonstrations are always a treat) will teach the English Country Dance Style Workshop.

More about SPARE PARTS

David Kaynor (fiddle) is well known for contra dance music & calling, but also has a secret love for playing English music.  Liz Stell (flute) and Bill Matthiesen (piano) are talented and versatile dance musicians, playing everything from Civil War era tunes to tangos. All three appear on various recordings.  Based in Western Massachusetts, the band is a regular at the Dance Flurry and has played for contra and English Country dances throughout the Northeast US and Canada.
