Country Dancers of Rochester sponsors traditional New England Contra Dances and English country dances. Here’s some useful information for beginners:

Our dances are participatory and open to all, with live music, and smoke and alcohol free. Newcomers are always welcome. Dances are taught and prompted, with more teaching at the beginning of the evening. No partner or special dress needed — dress comfortably and wear soft-soled, low-heeled shoes.

Contra Dances

When: Every Thursday, 8 – 11 PM
Where: Covenant United Methodist Church (MAP) (directions)
Admission: $7 ($6 members, $1 off for seniors & students)

English Country Dances

When: 1st & 3rd Sundays of every month, 6:30 – 9:30 PM
Where: Friends Meeting House (MAP) (directions)
Admission: $8 ($7 members, $1 off for seniors & students)

Country Dancers of Rochester is a member of the Country Dance and Song Society, a national organization dedicated to traditional dance and song. If you’re curious, check out our bylaws.

Membership

Membership in CDR costs $10 a year for an individual, $15 a year for a household. Members get $1 off dance admissions and are mailed a newsletter. Newsletter alone is $3 a year. Join at a dance or send a check (made out to “CDR”) to Bob Fabinski, 96 Stonybrook Dr., Rochester, NY 14618.
